The Elder Self-Neglect program is being funded by a grant by The Retirement Research Foundation.  The target population for the program is low-income individuals or families who are placing themselves at great risk of harm because of extremely poor decision making.  The decision making process may be negatively affected because of medical conditions such as dementia or other neurological disorders; historical mental health concerns such as schizophrenia; a history of alcoholism or substance abuse; or cluttering and hoarding behaviors.  The goal of this program is to provide support and assistance, through direct contact and referrals to other programs, to support independent living, in their own homes whenever possible, and to find the least intrusive measures to facilitate improved decision making while insuring that there is a reduction in the level of risk.
